The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées is stunning, unfurling in the glass with sweet fruit tones of cherries and raspberries that mingle with fragrant top-notes of violet and blood orange, complemented by more savory nuances of espresso and grilled squab. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, ample and layered, with an incredibly deep, concentrated core of fruit that verges on unctuous yet remains elegantly weightless, concluding with a long, floral and mouthwateringly saline finish. This is a masterclass in intensity without extraction, and it will be worth any effort to secure a few bottles.
The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuées 1er Cru offers slightly more blue fruit on the nose compared to its peers. It is well defined, although more generous and opulent in style. The palate is medium-bodied with more black fruit than red, saturated tannins and evidencing more skin contact than other Chambolles. There is attractive mineralité and tension on the finish. Afford this three or four years in bottle. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting.
Firm reduction dominates the fruit so be sure to decant this if you're going to crack a bottle in its youth. Otherwise there is fine volume and punch to the dense and seductively textured medium-bodied flavors that brim with both dry extract and minerality where the latter element really comes up on the saline and beautifully persistent finish where a hint of bitter cherry pit character arises. This is really very good.
Full rich purple. There is an immense density of fruit, great weight across the palate, lively and concentrated. Beautifully balanced, elegant and charming with real grace and medium intensity, Very fine. Quite a ripe dark fruit but sleek and stylish. Tasted Sep 2019.
