A pure Grenache Noir matured in concrete tanks, the 2023 Chateauneuf du Pape Croix de Bois is beautiful, revealing aromas of violet, rose, mulberries and garrigue. Medium- to full-bodied, round and sappy, it has a fleshy core of fruit and an elegant tannic frame that segue into a long, penetrating and gently grippy finish. Promising already, it should gain further refinement with time in the cellar.
Fresh violets, ripe strawberry, raspberry and a pinch of white pepper present the 2023 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Croix de Bois. Pale ruby-colored, smooth and concentrated, the 2023 greets the medium- to full-bodied palate with sweet red fruits supported by vivid energy. The finale is long and refined.
Cut from the same cloth as the Barbe Rac, with perhaps a touch more vibrancy and freshness, the 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape Croix De Bois is 100% Grenache from a single lieu-dit on the eastern side of the appellation. Kirsch, wild strawberries, Provençal spices, and garrigue, as well as fresh cut flowers, all shine here, and it's medium to full-bodied, vibrant, and layered on the palate, with nicely integrated acidity and a beautiful finish. It's beautifully done, and I think a step up over the Barbe Rac in this vintage. Drink this stunning beauty over the coming 15+ years. Drink 2025-2040.
