Vinified with 15% whole clusters, the 2023 Saint-Joseph Les Granits is excellent, revealing aromas of violet, mulberries, rose and lychee intertwined with notes of dark berries. Medium- to full-bodied, dense and layered, it’s elegantly textured, built around a juicy core of fruit framed by velvety tannins, culminating in a long, dark berry–inflected finish. Combining freshness with power, this is one of the finest renditions produced at this address.
The 2023 Saint-Joseph Les Granits starts by showing black fruits, slender spice, peppery accents and dried violets. Soft yet articulate graphite dust adds another layer. Propped up by firm tannins and bright acidity, the 2023 is at eye level with the equally enticing 2022 I tasted last year, steering the palate toward the close with persistence and fine-woven poise.
Juicy black cherries, red plums, ground pepper, and violet/floral nuances all shine in the 2023 Saint Joseph Les Granits, which comes from the namesake lieu-dit of the appellation and unquestionably one of its top vineyards. It's medium to full-bodied, has a round, layered, silky mouthfeel, nicely integrated, ripe and polished tannins, and outstanding length. It deserves 3-4 years of bottle age and will shine over the following 15+ years. Drink 2029-2044.
