Domaine du Pegau

The Domaine du Pegau story began in the 17th century, when the Féraud family planted their first vines in the southern Rhône. It was Laurence Féraud who managed to take the winery to the next level. She had inherited five hectares in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and was able to bottle her own wine from that. Before that time, the grapes used to be sold to wine merchants, also called négociants. With the experience gained, Laurence joined her father at the Domaine du Pegau. Together, they bought new vineyards and the wines were released under their own name. The current property includes 72 hectares of vineyards. The Côtes du Rhône and Châteauneuf-du-Pape labels are produced from these vineyards, both white and red.

Because the proportion of white grape varieties is quite small, they manage to process them in a biodynamic way. The plots with blue grape varieties are not grown using this method. The number of hectares is divided over a total of eleven plots. The best plots can be found on the La Crau plateau. The terroir is characterized by large rocks, stones, limestone and clay. In the vineyards, the familiar Rhône varieties are planted.

The grape bunches are usually fermented whole, in cement vats. In some years, it is decided to still de-stem the bunches. The red wines are then transferred to old foudres, these are large wooden barrels. In these foudres, the wine is kept for an average of 24 months. The portfolio consists of two white wines and three red wines. The cuvée Pegau da Capo is only produced in the best years. So far, this wine has only been produced eight times, and that happened in 1998, 2000, 2003, 2007, 2010, 2015, 2016 and 2020. An average of 500 cases were produced in those years. The winery's other wines are: A tempo, Laurence, Réservée White and Réservée Red.

The wines have an outstanding aging potential of about 20-25 years. Domaine de Pegau belongs to the absolute top of the Rhône valley!
