Wines from Ca'Marcanda

Ca'Marcanda

In 1996, Angelo Gaja started a project to produce wines with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. This lead to the creation of Ca'Marcanda, a GAJA estate in Bolgheri (Maremma). The most detailed land maps were used to find the best terroir with clayey-calcareous soils at the foot of the Metalliferous Hills. These soils preserve water and minerals, slowing down ripening and resulting in fresh and acidic wines.

The uncultivated land was identified and negotiations were successfully closed at the end of 1996 with the previous owners, which led to the name Ca'Marcanda, meaning "The House of Endless Negotiations" in Piedmontese dialect.

With Bolgheri's potential as a wine-producing territory in mind, Angelo Gaja established the winery in 1996, becoming the first to come with the objective of producing fine wines. Today, the winery extends over approximately 80 hectares of vineyards in Bolgheri's DOC appellation, aiming to produce wines that reflect the characteristics of the region with balanced middle structure, moderate alcohol, and a vibrant expression of freshness.
